South Africa’s winter weather ranges from cold & dry to rainy and the use of indoor heating systems can contribute to dry your lips and skin.  Honey can also be used to treat some cold symptoms, like a sore throat and relief for coughs.

Read on to learn about our 4 quick winter honey rescues for your family

1. Cough relief

Add 2 teaspoons of raw honey to your favourite herbal tea, like rooibos or chamomile. You can add some freshly sliced ginger for an extra boost of natural anti-inflammatories.

2. Soothes a sore throat

Take one to two teaspoons of honey at bedtime to soothe a sore throat.

3. Soothes dry, chapped lips

Scrubs aren’t reserved for the face or body only… It’s totally a luxury you can add to your lip-care routine as well. Try this Smoothing, soothing Honey Lip Scrub.

Recipe:
Combine in a small bowl and mix well:

  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil,
  • 1 teaspoon raw honey,
  • 2 tablespoons raw sugar, and
  • a dash of lemon juice

Apply mixture with a new toothbrush in a gentle circular motion. Rinse off and follow up with your favourite lip balm. Not a lemon fan? We also recommend adding a mixture of 2 to 3 tablespoons of crumbled oats, 1 teaspoon honey, ½ teaspoon apple cider vinegar, and one drop of tea tree oil.

4. Skin moisturiser

Try this amazing anti-aging skin moisturising cocoa face mask with a difference.  This is a decadent, antioxidant-packed mask containing cocoa & honey and replenishes moisture to your skin, giving it a restored and youthful appearance.

Recipe:
Combine and mix well in a bowl:

  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder,
  • 1 tablespoon sour cream,
  • 1 tablespoon honey, and
  • one egg white.

Apply to face and let dry before rinsing. The powerful ingredients make this a multi-tasking wonder-cream: Sour cream is a form of lactic acid that hydrates as it gently exfoliates; honey is a humectant that also boosts hydration while the protein in the egg white tightens and firms skin.

We wish you and your loved ones a safe and warm winter and remember to always make sure you have some Simply Bee Raw Honey in the pantry.
